A few quick Guides and links to others

This page will be updated, rearanged, and discombobulated at times and pretty much a huge wall of stuff. Most of these guides have been done by others and their names and links will be added. If I miss a name or not give them their dues, I appologise and will correct it when caught. I just want to bring them together in One place if possible and then try to keep them updated as well as they do. As I add more I'll give it some love to keep it easy as possible with a contents table to move around and access the guides more easily. Hopefully...

How to gear up correctly in DCUO for a DPS role

By Genius over at dcuo.mmorpg-life.com
(This is the expression of the author. If it works for you young weed hoppa, drop some coin in his hat. If you suck at DPS style combat, it his not his nor my fault after reading this.)

First and foremost I'm going to tell you what every new DCUO player needs to know: SKILL POINTS are the leveling system in this game. Levels 1-30 are a tutorial for you to adjust to your powers, learn the combat system and understand that feat points lead to skill points. While new players first notice it lets you purchase points to use other weapon classes, but the real value is in the innate abilites (might, crits, defense, health, vitalization, dominance and restoration). These will make you better at your role and you never stop leveling your character with skill points. At level 30 you should have at LEAST 25 skill points to be able to move comfortably through level 30 content. I try and have my new characters reach 30 skills by 30 and it is very achieveable. To be the best DPS you can be (obtaining all DPS innate skills) you need 80 skill points.
Now that's out of the way, on to the good stuff!

You have three options and by the time you get to level 30 you'll know which kind of DPS will suit you best. Let's find out which you gravitate to more.

1. PRECISION:

Do you find yourself using only your weapons? Can't get enough of that pistol Full Auto? Love Arrow Storm and forget to use your powers? Then precision is your style. Precision is the damage you do from weapon attacks. 10 precision = 1 weapon DPS. So if you have a 77.9 weapon with 200 precision, your weapon damage is 97.9. Precision can be a difficult path to go by, as the best precision gear in the game is more often than not an Epic drop from an iconic battle. If you find yourself leaning towards precision, it will be a hard road in survival as most precision based gear is low on defense and health. The trade off is fair though. You almost never need power (mana) and will be a favorite with controllers in raids because of it. Put your skill points into critical attack damage, followed by critical attack chance. Simply put, you want things to hit as hard as they can when they crit before you need to increase your “luck”. At level 30, you do not want to walk into a raid with anything less than 180 precision.

Notable and coveted Precision gear:

Gear slot: Name – Main DPS stat (location, enemy)
Head: Captain Cold's Furred Hood – 44 Precision (Stryker's Island, Rogues)
Face: Catwoman's goggles – 9 Precision (Catwoman Challenge, Catwoman)
Ring: Loop of the Alien Kings – 15 Precision (Outer Caverns/Inner Sanctum, Bastion Turret/Perimeter Guard)
Back: Doomsday's Savage Spines – 29 Precision (Smallville, Doomsday)
Pistols: Plated Neutronium Pistols – 32 Precision (Inner Sanctum, Brother Eye)

2. MIGHT

Run out of power (mana) all the time? Forget to use your mouse/X and Y button? Like me, you love to use your powers and if you've got it, you'll drop it like it's hot. Might is damage you do from your powers and powers alone. Stack your might and stack it high. At level 30, 1 might = 0.45% power damage increase. I've personally found this to be the most effective at end game and my most recent character, Disasterpiece is a testament to how lethal it can be. In 4 days I got him from character creator to level 30 (with the help of my hero league =D) and the second I hit 30 was dropped into Kahndaq. Straight after that I was put into Brainiac's Sub Construct and finished at the top of the DPS charts at 850k. Like precision based gear, you'll have to sacrifice some defensive stats to push the limit of your powers. Controllers will hate you for burning through power, but you keep the bad guys (or good guys) from killing them, so keep your head up! Might based gear is scattered everywhere, from epics to raid drops to random blue pieces that have abnormally high numbers. Stack your skill points in might (duh!) and then go for crit damage followed by crit chance. At level 30 you do not want to walk into a raid (or hard alert for that matter) with anything less than 1200 might.

Notable and coveted Might gear:

Head: Scarecrow's Tattered Helm – 123 Might (Arkham Asylum, Scarecrow)
Back: Punchline's Sign – 89 Might (Ace Chemicals, Punchline)
Waist: Reinforced Neutronium Belt – 70 Might (Inner Sanctum, ARC)
Bow: Dormorian Hunter's Bow – 123 Might (Outer Caverns, RCP)
Rifle: Ultra Modern Minigun – 123 Might (Sub Construct, Brainiac)

3. BALANCE SPEC

You use both equally. You use your powers and weapons in sync to get a mix of both combat styles. Tier gear was made for you. At level 30, grab the Kabuki gear from duos, Psycho from Hard Alerts, then move on to Tier 1 and Tier 2. These gear sets are a perfect balance of both stats and have the better defense of any dps gear. Not much more to say that hasn't been said, really. At level 30 you do not want to walk into a raid with any less than 1100 Might and 120 Precision.

DCUO Stats

DCUO Stats Descriptions

The major stats are: Health, Power, Defense, Might, Restoration, Vitalization, Precision, Toughness and Dominance.

Toughness and Defense are stats that allow you to reduce damage. In order to defend yourself properly in PvP combat you have to build Toughness, Defense does nothing for you during PvP combat. Gear can have one but not both, thus one gear set for each enemy type.

Toughness = PVP – Player Damage reduction.                    Defense = PVE NPC Damage reduction

Health:
Health (green bar) measures ability to withstand knockout. Health automatically begins to recover out of combat.

Power:
No Fighting Style provides any bonus to Power. Power (blue bar) is required to use powers in your Loadout, and is drained as they are preformed. Power builds during weapon attacks as shown by the hit counter; power also regens slowly out of combat.

Defense:
Defense reduces damage from non-player enemies; the higher you level the more defense is required. Defense is included on all quest rewarded gear and weapons. It is mostly important to Tanks.
Stat Formula: 1% Damage Reduction = 15 Defense (level 1) and 71 Defense (level 30).

Might:
Might increases damage from powers.
Stat Formula: Adds .25% per point at level 1 up to .35% per point at level 30.

Restoration:
Restoration increases healing. The higher your Restoration, the more you heal. Obviously it is important for Healers, but it is also key to Fire Tanks who use self-heals.
Stat Formula: 4 restoration = 1% base healing increase.

Vitalization:
Vitalization increases power healing effects. Vitalization affects your ability to restore the blue bar (Power). In DCUO, the ability to “heal power” is a Controller function, so Vitalization is mostly important to Controllers.
Stat Formula: 10 Vitalization = 1% power generation increase

Precision:
Precision adds damage to all weapon attacks.
Stat Formula: 10 Precision = +1 DPS

Toughness:
Toughness reduces damage from player enemies. The higher your level, the more Toughness is required. Toughness is the primary PvP stat. It’s available from PvP gear bought from vendors. Certain safe houses have lower ranked PvP gear and the HQs have rank 30 PvP gear which requires special PvP currency as well as cash. The bonuses to Defense & Toughness provided by Fighting Styles always come together; any Style which buffs Defense also buffs Toughness by the same amount.
Stat Formula: 1% damage reduction = 15 Toughness (Level 1) and 71 Toughness (Level 30)

Dominance:
Dominance is a pure controller stat. It increases the number of health points lost by a target before a Control effect ends. At high levels, Dominance must be higher than enemy Willpower to be effective. Dominance increases duration/strength of stuns, encasements, roots, etc. Dominance definitely seems to effect knock-up/knock-back abilities. Various endgame Raids and Alerts have recommended Dominance levels. This is crucial when doing hard modes with medium difficulty and raids. As a controller if you go into a medium hard mode or raid with your dominance under the recommend amount ( 200 medium, 350 raid) your control spells will be out right resisted making you ineffective at cc.

DCUO Guide: Caging Penguin Instance

Rewards:

125 Renown with Wayne Tech.
2 Mark of Allegiance
Leprechaun’s Tall Hat, Style Celtic
Advanced Synthweave Pants, Style Split Personality

Walkthrough At the entrance you have several mobs (3-4 in the group). After killing them all, Two-Face does coin-flip and determines what path you take (which mini boss you will fight). If you get the scratched side of the coin your path will be harder.

Hush – Mini Boss

Hush isn't that difficult as long as you use the heal barrels correctly. He has a skill that would drain all your power, but it would come back completely a few seconds later. While your power is empty just run and block. Hush moves slowly – easy to get out of his range. All you need to do is move around and he will rarely hit you.

Bane – Mini Boss

During the Bane fight you will get several messages. Wait for the 40 second message, grab barrel and throw it on the Bane. You have to throw TWO barrels and he’ll be stunned for about 5 seconds. When he returns to normal run upstairs and use your ranged attacks on him. Avoid long animation attacks!

Pengbot Maximus – Mini Boss

Penguin Maximus is probably the hardest boss in any solo mission. This boss has slowing laser-beams, the spin attack, fire, ice and medic penguins adds. The laser beams consistently drown your health away, even if you do block, it keeps hitting and slowing you. Blocking works for the spinning attack that stuns you and knocks you down continuously. To beat that Pengbot Maximus kill the little ones when they appear. You actually have to destroy one of them near Pengbot and all adds will explode. The little bots (adds) have a Fire and Ice attacks that does DoT. When Pengbot does the spin attack he has a large skull appear over his head. Immediately roll (Shift+A or Shift+D) to the left or right. This attack is in a straight line and if he misses you, use back walk and ranged attacks to fight him from a distance. After he drops below half health he no longer does the spin attack. Immediately after spin-attack hit him hard for about 6 seconds. He can be stunned during this time to extend vulnerable period. There are only three healing barrels in the Pengbot Maximus room, so prepare Cola’s in case you use the healing barrels too early.

Penguin – Main Boss

The Penguin fight, itself, is also fairly tough for a solo instance. There are six healing barrels, but you'll probably need all of them. Don’t forget that their respown timers are slower than in other solo instances. To beat Penguin stay at medium range or he will melt your face with his machine gun. If you go too far away Penguin uses grenade launcher. Don’t try to block his grenades, just avoid them by jumping or rolling and hit him with ranged attacks. At short range you will be stunned all the time. If you don’t have something like Grandeur, Amazonian Deflection, Reflect Pain or other skill to block the damage, use cover when he starts shooting. At medium range, he uses flamethrower that does 44 damage. His flamethrower is easy to avoid. Basically, you need to use ranged attacks on Penguin. Take advantage of the fact that you're in a big room full of healing barrels fighting one slow guy. Run from the top floor to the bottom, making Penguin chase you up and down the stairs. Find a healing barrel, let him waddle toward you, and then attack him while the healing barrel works. Then run/fly to the other side, smash the healing barrel and hit him with ranged attacks.
